My passion for psychology sprouted late in life. When I was a little girl I dreamed of being a reporter, mainly because I wanted to be seen on television.
I also believe that being a reporter will provide me with the opportunity to help other people, just like the news anchor that my parents watched every night. An avid writer with a nose for news and an aspiring public servant, I made the decision to devote my college career in pursuing journalism.
My volunteer work allows me to channel my humanistic interest, it also served as an outlet for my compassionate nature and a haven were I could escape the pressure of academia. The hectic demands of the newsroom did not prevent me from pursuing volunteer work. I juggled my time between struggling to meet deadlines and providing year round support to the children at camp heartland.
After three years of working as a reporter, I suddenly began to lose interest in my work, I was burned out.
When I began my career as a reporter I my job to be both enjoyable and gratifying, but suddenly writing news began to fell like an arduous task. I seemed to have forgotten why I became a reporter in the first place, I lost my heart for the job.
As the days passed I began to dread going back to the newsroom more and more while I looked forward to returning to the kids at camp. I finally came to the realization that I my heart belongs to another profession, counseling.
My ultimate goal now is to earn a graduate degree in psychology and to later on establish a career as counselor. I believe that I found my niche in Psychology, and I am determined to see my goal into fruition. I also believe that the program will further my understanding of psychology and will enable me to become an effective counselor in a variety of settings.
